Restoration Technician - Levels 1-4

As a member of the team, you will help design, build, activate and maintain some of the world's most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be able to operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Repairing, preserving, and enhancing the appearance of damaged or worn stone, metal or wood projects by utilizing various techniques like stripping, sanding, staining and painting. Requiring an understanding of stone, metal and wood types. Construction methods, and finishing techniques to restore pieces while maintaining their original integrity and aesthetic value. Often working with various metals like aluminum, brass, copper, and stainless steel, while adhering to quality standards and safety procedures; key duties include operating polishing machines, hand finishing, inspecting work pieces, and maintaining equipment cleanliness.
Key responsibilities & qualifications
● Mentor and perform as part of a team of technicians responsible for all facilities construction, preventative maintenance, and repairs across Los Angeles.
● Layout, installation, repair, finishing, maintaining various structures, fixtures and buildings
● Effectively manage a large portfolio of projects in different stages of repair and construction
● Must be able to perform tasks autonomously in order to fill-in
● Run the organization schedule on a day-to-day basis
● Collaborate with property engineers, managers, and security to operating conditions, and to develop/update property team regarding site plans
● Point-of-contact for building teams to ask questions on project schedules and blockers. Ability to provide guidance and re-direction of tasks.
● Material management, shop organization, and worksite cleanliness
● Conduct other restoration tasks as assigned by leadership
● Identify issues on sites and recommend proactive upgrades to leadership
● Assessment and Consultation: Inspect areas to identify damage, discuss restoration planning with the team, provide accurate estimates of completion, and determine the best course of action.
● Setup and Cleaning: Carefully mask the surrounding area, removing old finishes using stripping chemicals or mechanical methods, and cleaning surfaces to prepare for repairs. Ensure the surrounding work environment is well maintained.
● Wood Restoration: Filling cracks, patching holes, replacing damaged wood sections, and stabilizing loose joints using appropriate woodworking techniques.
● Metal Restoration: Cleaning and conditioning leather surfaces, repairing scratches or tears, applying protective treatments, and color matching where necessary. Understanding of various metal types, technics to restore metal.
● Stone Restoration: Understanding of various stone types. Technics to restore, various finishes etc.
● Finishing: Sanding surfaces to achieve desired smoothness, applying stains & finishes (lacquer, varnish, shellac) according to the material type or desired aesthetic.
● Understanding/interest the construction techniques and historical details of antique furniture to ensure proper restoration practices.
● Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of each restoration project, including photographs of the initial condition, repair process, and final results.
What is required to join our team as a Lead:
● High School diploma or GED preferred
● 2+ years of construction-related field leadership and installation experience preferred
● A valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company standards
● Ability, skills and capacity to operate equipment and/or power tools and train others to operate them
● Finishing techniques: Knowledge of different types of stains, paints, lacquers, and application methods.
● Material identification: Understanding the properties of different finishes, stone, metal and wood types
● Ability and willingness to train, motivate and inspire crew members
● Strong organization and time-management skills
● Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
● Availability to work flexible days/hours to include weekends, as needed
● Strong communication skills, ability to motivate, and be a team player.
● Must have a valid, non-restrictive driver’s license.
Additional Requirements
● Able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
● Work hours depend on site priorities and may require overtime hours, weekends and holidays; flexibility required. Strong attendance and adhering to the work schedule is an essential function of the role.
● Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
● Able to work at elevated heights (up to 150 feet), including the use of ladder
● Possesses a good attitude, willingness to learn, flexibility, and is a self-starter
● Demonstrates a consistent record of punctual schedule adherence
● Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction.
● Must have a valid driver’s license
● Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
● Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to generate service reports and communicate within the company including skills to navigate web-based service literature and programs
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related experience, education, knowledge and skills. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SMW. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of potential discretionary bonuses. You may also accrue 2 weeks of paid vacation & will be eligible for paid holidays per year.
